It will be structured and only as hard as you want to make it as we obviously have mixed abilities attending the sessions.

Great first session last night and everyone did really well. Not a structured session as such but it gave me an idea of where you all are and showed you the kind of things we will be doing over the following weeks. As there are two types of turbo trainer used it also gave me something to go on regarding hill climbs and fast cadence resistance.

As long as you feel like you are climbing a hill you are doing it right. As the weeks go on you will find you will be in a harder gear/resistance than you are now as your legs get stronger and your aerobic fitness improves.
Next Tuesdays session will be a HILL PYRAMID. Not as hard as it sounds. Just use a gear that feels like a climb but you can keep for the duration of the climb. The session has effort/recovery intervals throughout. After a couple of weeks it will all just click and fall into place.

Thanks for the warm welcome last night and see you all next week.

    Hi all

Just to clarify an important point regarding the Carten ride. Had a word with Peter today and passing on what was said.

Even if you registered and got the email back confirming this, this was only to say you have been added to the list. Entry is only confirmed upon receipt of your payment. Payment needs to be received by the organisers within two weeks of you being added to the entry list, so to avoid disappointment get your money in. Even if you chose to drop it in the shop, I still need it within the two weeks.

This is due to the high demand to enter the ride (150 places gone by lunchtime today!!) so places cannot be held without payment when others are wanting to enter. So, get your money to me (with the confirmation email they sent you attached) or a cheque in the post, or a bacs payment.

    Thanks

    Jon

    PS.

I might be interested in your proposal Andrew. Give me a call

    Hi Guys

The date for the classes should actually be Wednesday 4th January. Sorry about that. As it’s your turbo night, I can always arrange another night if easier for you and come over their.

    Thanks

    Hi

Iv’e pasted the post I put on the Aces website regarding the Turbo sessions for this year. It will give you an idea of what you need and what to expect. Hope it helps.

    Jon

    Hi everyone

The Turbo Training start next week ( Tuesday 4th October) at Tenby Bowling club with two sessions per week, Tuesdays & Thursdays, starting at 7:00pm at a cost of £2 per night (make sure you bring it with you)

Most of you have done them before and know what to expect but I’ll go through the important stuff again.

I would imagine we’ll be very busy with the sessions this year, especially due to Ironman fever!! so make sure you get there around 15 – 30 minutes before the start.

We will also have to monitor it a little more this year in as much as if you come on a regular basis, i.e. at least once a week, you will get a space. Can’t really turn away regulars for someone who turns up once every two or three weeks.

The sessions will vary from week to week, covering hills, speed and interval training etc. we’ll also be using training Dvd’s and music to get you motivated and take your mind off the pain!!

As I said earlier, if you have attended the sessions before you’ll know what to expect and what to bring along with you, but I’ve listed the essentials below.

    Bike

Preferably a road bike with a quick release rear wheel. You can use a hybrid style bike but I wouldn’t recommend a mountain bike or anything with nobbly tyres.

    Turbo Trainer

We have club turbo’s but if you have your own please bring it along.

    Heart rate monitor

An essential item as heart rate and cadence used for turbo and not so much emphasis on speed. For example, you can gauge your fitness levels by your heart rate recovery, which will improve over the sessions. Don’t worry if you don’t have one to start as we do have a few spares, but try and get one asap.

    Cycle computer with cadence

As explained above, speed is not important but cadence is. Cadence is RPM – pedal revolutions (how many times you make a complete pedal revolution per minute). This is worked in line with your heart rate for your training. I would advise getting one of these if you don’t already have one.

    Cycle shorts

Essential, even for hardened cyclists. Believe me, you will thank me for this one!!

    Drink/Towel

Make sure you bring plenty to drink as you will get very hot and sweaty, which is where the towel comes in handy.

    Cycling shoes

You can wear any shoes such as trainers, but in the long run, clip in pedals and cycling shoes will be far better. This is because you can pull as well as push on the pedals, giving you a better, more efficient pedal stroke. Turbo training is also a good time to change over to clip in pedals and get used to them (no embarrassing falling of at traffic light or a junction in front of an audience)

Finally, can you all make sure you wipe down any club equipment you have used once you finish the session, and if your bike is particularly dirty, something to place it on to stop oil getting on the carpet, such as an old towel.

To give me an idea of numbers, could you please let me if you are coming along.

Any queries please give me a call

I know that it’s been difficult to get hold of carbon bikes the last few days. The suppliers said they couldn’t disclose the reason for this, because if they did they would have to kill me!! 😯

    Hi Ian

I think he was just a little frustrated like me ha ha. That’ll teach him to check the forum for he goes to bed at 7pm for his beauty sleep won’t it.

Hi Roger. If I’d known I would have fitted a cable for you just so you could have a go at me a little longer like the rest of them 😉 and you would have seen Andrew getting a puncture 😥 Bless him. See you soon.

    Hi all

Apart from the route gremlins and the mechanicals it was a great ride and nice to ride with you all. I’m going back round the route by Canaston to pick up some of the toys I threw out earlier!!!. I’m also starting map reading courses and getting Tee shirts with the route printed on the back so no-one gets lost ha ha. You’ve got all this to come. Everything normally goes like clockwork and today of all days it went pear shaped. Wouldn’t think we were a professional club would you!!

Great ride lads and hopefully we’ll join you nest week for your ride. If we can find our way there??

    Hi

Please note, update to route : Had a word with a couple of our members and run it by Andrew and decided once we get to the top of Amroth hill, we’ll turn right and carry on to the main road then turn left and head for Kilgetty. Once there, up Begelly hill towards the Boars Head at Templeton, turn left towards Canaston Bowl, then head towards Martletwy, Cresswell Quay and Carew. We then head to Milton Hill (Stephens Green), turn right at the top towards Lamphey and head back on the coast road. A few wanted a longer ride tomorrow so this adds a fair few miles on with plenty off opportunities to cut it short. Also, once at Templeton easier for some of you guys to head back to Narberth if you want but more than welcome to ride the whole route with us.

I know a few of you had planned on doing a longer ride anyway and with this route most of the hills are on the first part of the ride.

    Hi

Glad to see we are not the only ones who go the wrong way sometimes. I plot the routes and haven’t got a clue where I’m going. I rely on the others. I’m stuffed if they get it wrong.

    Hi

I’ve had a chat with Andrew and we came up with a route that was around the same distance for both clubs, with options to add a few miles on or cut it short if you want. We’re still up for the Preseli ride and looking forward to it but were just concerned with some of the newer members coping with the distance and hills (so we chose a route from Laugharne to Tenby via the coast road!!)No problem with starting early when we do the Preseli route. I’ll tell them to go to bed earlier.

We’re looking forward to meeting you all, and if you want we can always stop for a coffee in Pendine. I’ve attached a Garmin Connect link for the full route we do from Tenby but you’ll meet us in St Clears and pick it up from there. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/13668447
