this sunday we will ride with the tenby aces. meet at bloomfield at 9. then ride to st clears via tavernspite, whitland and pont fennie. we will meet the aces at the little chef car park at 10. from there we will ride through laugharn, pendine, amroth and wisemans bridge. if a little too long then there are a couple of routes after pendine to cut the ride shorter.
April 6, 2011 at 7:44 pm #24025jonMemberHi
I’ve had a chat with Andrew and we came up with a route that was around the same distance for both clubs, with options to add a few miles on or cut it short if you want. We’re still up for the Preseli ride and looking forward to it but were just concerned with some of the newer members coping with the distance and hills (so we chose a route from Laugharne to Tenby via the coast road!!)No problem with starting early when we do the Preseli route. I’ll tell them to go to bed earlier.
We’re looking forward to meeting you all, and if you want we can always stop for a coffee in Pendine. I’ve attached a Garmin Connect link for the full route we do from Tenby but you’ll meet us in St Clears and pick it up from there. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/13668447

April 9, 2011 at 5:48 pm #24039jonMemberHi
Please note, update to route : Had a word with a couple of our members and run it by Andrew and decided once we get to the top of Amroth hill, we’ll turn right and carry on to the main road then turn left and head for Kilgetty. Once there, up Begelly hill towards the Boars Head at Templeton, turn left towards Canaston Bowl, then head towards Martletwy, Cresswell Quay and Carew. We then head to Milton Hill (Stephens Green), turn right at the top towards Lamphey and head back on the coast road. A few wanted a longer ride tomorrow so this adds a fair few miles on with plenty off opportunities to cut it short. Also, once at Templeton easier for some of you guys to head back to Narberth if you want but more than welcome to ride the whole route with us.
I know a few of you had planned on doing a longer ride anyway and with this route most of the hills are on the first part of the ride.

Great ride (in hindsight!!) beautiful weather and stunning scenery. Nice to see that herding cyclists is not just a Dynamos problem. Andrew was looking quite smug by the end.
Dynamos were out in force, all five of us, Roger, Andrew, Hugh, Matthew and me. Tim from the Aces met us for the ride over to the designated meeting point at St Clears. Amazingly (and the only thing that seemed to go to entirely plan!) both parties turned up at the same time bang on 10am.
Carl of the Aces was using this ride to shake down his new bike (it promptly seemed to shake itself to bits!) but luckily he and had brought his personal mechanic along.
I think that the Aces need to check their club members bikes; Tim shot up Pendine Hill like a rat up a drain pipe and Matt and I swear we got the whiff of 2 stroke as he flew by. Maybe he has KERS?
Quite a few firsts for me today:
- First time without Kim to make sure I got home safely (I did eventually)
- First time I have ever been accused of being over dressed
- First time up Marros and Amroth Hills
- First time I have done over 50 miles (54.5!)
.
Sadly not the first time I felt utterly knackered by the time I got home.
I must sort out my nutrition. Last night I stuffed my face with pasta, had three weetabix for breakfast got through two bottles of energy drink and three energy bars and still hit a bit of a wall at Cresswell Quay. If I carry much more I will burning energy just to lug it up the hills. Perhaps I should just get Kim to carry if for me.
Anyway I had a nice leisurely ride home and didn’t get lost which was a result in itself.
Bring on the Preseli Angel (climb not event) next Sunday!

April 10, 2011 at 8:29 pm #24042jonMemberHi all
Apart from the route gremlins and the mechanicals it was a great ride and nice to ride with you all. I’m going back round the route by Canaston to pick up some of the toys I threw out earlier!!!. I’m also starting map reading courses and getting Tee shirts with the route printed on the back so no-one gets lost ha ha. You’ve got all this to come. Everything normally goes like clockwork and today of all days it went pear shaped. Wouldn’t think we were a professional club would you!!
Great ride lads and hopefully we’ll join you nest week for your ride. If we can find our way there??

Love the idea of the shirts. Good luck in finding your toys. I think Carlton lost his dummy at Crosshands, perhaps you could keep an eye out for it?
See you next week where the baton passes to our illustrious Chairman…..
He who laughs last etc!

April 10, 2011 at 8:50 pm #24044RogerMemberGreat conditions for today’s ride but I wonder if the sun burnt through my gear cable….if I’d known Jon was carrying a spare cable I would not have been a able to cut the grass,do the childen’s homework and hang a gate when I got prematurely back!
Nice to see everybody out enjoying the sunny roads
Cheers

April 10, 2011 at 9:06 pm #24045jonMemberHi Ian
I think he was just a little frustrated like me ha ha. That’ll teach him to check the forum for he goes to bed at 7pm for his beauty sleep won’t it.
Hi Roger. If I’d known I would have fitted a cable for you just so you could have a go at me a little longer like the rest of them 😉 and you would have seen Andrew getting a puncture 😥 Bless him. See you soon.

April 11, 2011 at 2:14 pm #24046Nick GMemberSounds like everyone’s starting to get a few miles in!! I’ve been sat on my backside with a chest infection for a couple of weeks. Hoping to get out for a gentle spin tomorrow to try and ease back into things. Not ideal prep for May 8th, but that’s life. Does anyone know if they’re taking any more entries for the Dragon?? Look forward to seeing you all in June..
April 11, 2011 at 7:05 pm #24047MorganiteMemberNick, thats the trouble you are not used to the weather up North get well soon
