The annual Aces Xmas dinner and awards presentation took place at the Gilber Hotel, Tenby on 17 December. Joining the great and the good and representing the Dynamos was Kim, Mat G and myself (we are all Aces as well).

After a welcome drink in the bar we were ushered to our tables. Seating plans had been prepared and I was honoured (see later) to be sat next to Mike Smith with Kim and Mat opposite. Mat and Kim were soon bored shitless by Mike and I’s in depth discussion on Solar Panels, Inverters and Wood Burning stoves to the point that Kim asked to move down the table. Still, Mat soon got his own back with tales of cycling with Geraint..

The Aces were out in their finery and as would be expected from his success at the Dynamos Award Ceremony, Mat didn’t let the side down by wearing a very festive waistcoat.

The seasonal fair was excellent, Mushroom stuffed with Risotto, washed down with a couple of pints of Brains Best.

Grazing over, it was time for the highlight of the evening, the awards. It must be said that this was perhaps a slightly more ‘traditional’ approach to celebrating achievement in the Club that we adopted, but each to their own. It looked like half of North Wales had been transported south just to make the trophies….

The awards commenced with an address from Chairman Pat who worryingly took to the floor with a huge stack of cue cards. Luckily he only appeared to have one word on each; very Bob Dylan… Having reeled off the list of events tacked by the Club in 2011 he passed onto President Rees with occasional quip thrown in from Jon Mills, who looked like a cross between Diana Ross and Les Gray (younger members may need the assistance of Google to get fully appreciate Jon’s look).

An award that we really must emulate (rip off) was the Bull***t award that went to Jon Mills for his novel business hours and failure to turn up on rides. Shaun collected the most improved rider award in I think the senior category but could not be sure for the racket going on next to me (see below).

The next bit was all a bit serious with awards given for sporting prowess and success; a concept lost to us Dynamos and anyway I kind of lost concentration as it was much more fun watching Carl fail miserably to try and gag Jennina as she rather vocally added her congratulations to the winners.

Recognition was rightfully given to those that had completed the Ironman and we were all honoured to have (Narberth’s!) Oliver Simon in attendance.

It was then onto the main event, the Committee’s Member of the Year and the Member’s Member of the Year. Both awards went to Mike Smith proving he is indeed the consummate Member. Congratulations Mike from all your friends at the Dynanmos.

We departed around midnight leaving the youngsters to boggie the night away. A great night out and congratulations to all the Aces winners.

Finally, a big thank you to Nic and Carton for all their efforts organising the event. Looks like the County Cousins will have to up the ante in 2012.
