What time will you be at Bloomfield Andrew?

I’ll be there. Jim’s been in touch – change to the start time. It’s now 9.00 a.m. on all rideouts, as the website,

      not 9.30.

    . That’s 9.00 folks!

Jim has asked me to remind everyone that, depending on the level and number of riders who turn up, the pace is likely to be gentle and there will be quite a few ‘review and plan’ stops. Riders who are used to a fast pace should consider wearing an extra layer or two to avoid getting cold as a result of riding at a slower pace than they usually do or waiting for others to re-group.

Jim’s come back to me. The plan is for the rideouts to start at 9.30 a.m.

Sounds good Pete. Lets have a strong Dynamo support for the rideouts. If anyone hasn’t joined them before they’re good fun and an excellent taster for the Tour, especially this year with all the new routes. They generally started at 9.00 a.m. last year, but I’ve asked Jim Eliot to confirm.

From the footbridge you can get on to the old Pensarn Road, via a cycle path (right, just past the station). Follow Pensarn Road to where it goes under the A40, then take the first left on to Penmorfa Lane. Take the first left off this and it’ll take you straight to Cranc, avoiding the busy roads and roundabouts. Or you can turn left at the end of the cycle path and go on to old Llangunnor Road (part of this is now a path), which would be quicker. Maybe go back that way.

Looks good G. As you say we can lose a few hills and miles on the way out by going on the old Red Roses – Llandowror road. Or we could go south at Red Roses and join the Daffodil route to St Clears. Could also go across the pedestrian bridge to the train station in Carmarthen to avoid some traffic lights.

That sounds good Mat. The alternative for anyone who fancies something a bit different is Jim Elliott’s Cycle Quest. Details from Jim below:

A Cycle Quest event is being held on the morning of Thursday 29th December from 10:30, starting from Vic North’s cafe in Market Street Newport (there’s free parking in the main car park in Long Street). It is for teams of two or more. There are enough map sets for 12 teams so the more people who turn up the larger the teams will be (and the more fun it will be keeping together!)

This is the same event as was tested out in October and is a treasure hunt on bikes all within a ten mile radius of Newport and great fun.

There are points for each clue found / solved with the number depending on the type of Quest and how far away they are. There is a 3 hour time limit with points deducted from the total for every minute over three hours (back in Newport). There are bonus points for completing half and then all of the clues for each of the three types of Quest. The winner is the team with the most points and the prize is simply knowing that you are the smartest and best riders on the day!

The three types of Quest are:
Fun Quest – easier clues mostly on road and closer to Newport, suitable for families
Road Quest – clues all on roads and extending the furthest from Newport
Trail Quest – clues on bridleways, tracks and fields mostly on Newport and Dinas mountains

From the test event I can advise that you can do the Trail Quest clues easily on a hard tail mountain bike or cyclo cross bike with nobbly tyres. Most of the clues on tracks and trails would be accessible on a hybrid or road bike with winter tyres but the ones in fields would not be so easily reached.

Entry is a donation to one of the Alzheimer’s disease charities.

Any takers for this or Mat’s route?

And for a list of local/Welsh sportives for next year, have a look at the Hornets site https://haverfordwesthornets.com/sportive-2017/. Not forgetting the NarCar!

OK guys – get in early for the Tour of Pembs and save a few quid, as Geraint says. All new routes, in the opposite direction! Who’s up for the 130, with 13,000 feet against gravity? (No need for you to respond Mike – it’s a given!)The shorter 60 & 80 mile routes would make cracking off season Sunday rides, starting in, say, Maenclochog.
