As I hope you are aware, the new look Winter Training Programme will start on Tuesday 9 October at 7.30 at Bloomfield run by Nick Brown.
We are trying to get as many people along as possible, members and non-members (hoping of course they will subsequently join…) and so (thanks as ever to Leighton) will be putting up a poster around Narberth this week.
To help spread the word, if you are able to print out and display the poster somewhere prominent (local shop, at work etc.) it would be appreciated.
September 21, 2012 at 6:25 pm #25004ValleyManMemberDetails of Nick’s proposed programme for the Winter Training:
The sessions would be structured towards a typical cycling season, so Oct to Dec is usually a recovery period, so its a good time to work on improving technique and efficiency, such as gear changing, out of the saddle riding, pedalling efficiency, eliminating upper body movement etc. We will do some low intensity, base endurance training, some core strength work (floor exercises) and also try and perfect our position on the bike.
Jan to Feb would be similar but introducing some intensity to the sessions (the puddle under Andrews bike will get bigger). March and April would be fairly high intensity training, focusing on muscular strength and speed (flood alert!).
That’s the plan, but at the end of the day people can take the sessions as hard or as easy as they want and still get something out of it. As long as they are happy, that’s the main thing.
During the sessions I can also provide some ad-hoc training advice and answer any questions raised. The downside is that you will have to put up with my eclectic taste in music (some say shite, but I think that’s a little unfair) and also endless tales of ‘when I was going up the Galibier…………..’!!!!
So we can get an idea of numbers, please could you post here if you are intending to come along and if you will require a Turbo. Don’t forget the special offer if you book all 11 weeks to Xmas in advance.
Remember, this is open to everyone so please tell friends, colleagues etc.
September 21, 2012 at 7:44 pm #25005AntsMemberMe and jane are planning to come so can we book the turbo trainers.cheers valley man.
September 21, 2012 at 8:41 pm #25007ValleyManMemberThanks Ant: In the book!
September 22, 2012 at 5:40 pm #25012Sweaty EdsMemberValleyman, I’m going to give it a go.
Could I book a place, a turbo and maybe an industrial strength fan and a stack of towels. It would be worth Bloomfield perhaps rigging up some sort of extra drainage.
September 22, 2012 at 8:13 pm #25013RogerMemberI’m back!……and I’ll be there…alternate weeks as I have to work….I’ll bring my electric turbo..if we’re short
September 22, 2012 at 10:07 pm #25017stoneditchMemberHello Valleyman,
Put me down please. There are a couple of Tuesdays this side of Christmas I’ll be unable to do. The 20th & 27th November spring to mind right now.
Thank you
Jonathon
October 8, 2012 at 5:27 pm #25112butcherboyMemberJust to remind everyone turbo training starts this week. We`ve had a good response. So, just in case we are short, can everyone who has a turbo trainer please bring them along. Thanks.
October 8, 2012 at 5:36 pm #25113leightspMember1 Turbo for me please. Thank you Valleyman
October 8, 2012 at 7:54 pm #25114FlapjackmanMemberMay I have a go and book a turbo please, never done it before, I’ll try not to crash!!
October 8, 2012 at 8:02 pm #25115ValleyManMemberFlapjack, we will make sure you are not sat behind Andrew.
October 8, 2012 at 8:05 pm #25116RogerMemberThis year..like in the summer,I’m looking around for some one to do the turbo sessions for me…
October 8, 2012 at 10:26 pm #25117ValleyManMemberRoger, if nothing else can we at least have your Turbo as we may be running short! This would seem to be an elegant solution for you.
October 10, 2012 at 12:53 pm #25120ValleyManMemberLast night was a great success with 21 turning up and one spectator (Gary would have joined in but his bike is still plastered to the roof of a tunnel on the infamous Paris Périphérique).
Thanks to funding from Sport Wales and South Hook LNG we have 9 Club Turbos and may be able to get a couple more, however, if it had not been for Nick bringing along 10 of his own it might have been a bit embarrassing!
If you are going to come along could you bring a turbo if you have one.
For those that don’t, we will be giving priority to people who block book a term (11 for the price of 10 special deal still available – but probably not good value after next week!).
Otherwise can you please let us know via the forum if you want to come along and will need a turbo. No need to post if you have your own turbo as space (so far!) is not an issue.
If for whatever reason you can’t then make it, please let us know in advance so we don’t have to potentially turn people away un-necessarily.
Finally, if you are serious about improving your cycling perhaps you should consider buying your own turbo. Think of all the fun you could have doing one leg pedal exercises at home watching Eastenders.
